Fujifilm transferred part of its film production line to Yes!Star in Guangxi, China in June. This company will undertake the packaging of Fujifilm c200 and c400. Yes!Star is a medical device company with rich experience in medical film production.
On July 1, Yes!Star released its point-and-shoot camera S1. This camera looks very similar to Fujifilm's disposable cameras. It is speculated that it may be sold together with Fujifilm's c200 and c400 films, just like Fujifilm's disposable cameras.
According to the pictures in the media, the Yes!Star S1 camera is not a disposable camera, but a 31mm fixed-focus camera with replaceable film. The maximum aperture may be f/11 and it has a flash.
It is obviously a point-and-shoot camera. Although both the focal length and the maximum aperture are destined not to be a camera suitable for serious film photography, it is more of a toy for young photographers to experience film photography. The maximum aperture of f/11 means that this camera does not need a focus system, and the flash can make up for the performance in low-light environments.
However, as many people know, the current Fujifilm c200 and c400 are not produced by Fujifilm in Japan. The current Fujifilm c200 and c400 are manufactured by Kodak in the United States. It is said that the prototypes of these two films are Kodak gold200 and Kodak ultramax400. It is impossible to know how different the film formulas of these two brands are, but according to the feedback from Reddit, Fujifilm c200 and c400 are not exactly the same as gold200 and Kodak ultramax400. Yes!Star is only responsible for the packaging of these Fuji films from the United States. I believe the purpose is to further reduce costs and maximize profits.
There is nothing wrong with Fuji's business behavior. As an amateur film photographer, I understand a simple truth - only when more people join analog photography can the price of film be reduced and those charming slides can be produced again. And not at this crazy price right now.
The price of the camera has not yet been announced. But I think in this era of analog photography renaissance, any effort to promote the film market is a good thing.
