According to www.fujirumors.com, Fujifilm will launch the Fujifilm X-M5 in the second half of 2024.
A few months ago, Fujifilm officially stated on social media that it would revive a forgotten series. Only a small number of people speculated that it was the X-M series, which is indeed a forgotten series.
Before the release of Fujifilm X-M5, Fujifilm's X-M series only had one camera, the Fujifilm X-M1. The Fujifilm X-M1 is an entry-level mirrorless camera born in 2013.
Back in 2012, Fujifilm just released the X-mount mirrorless cameras. At that time, the Fujifilm X-pro1 came with a new X-Trans sensor, symbolizing that Fujifilm had entered an era of mirrorless. About half a year later, Fujifilm launched the Fujifilm XE1 ,a camera without EVF/OVFAs, a mid-range model to fill this almost blank product line.
In 2013, the Fujifilm X-M1 was born. As the most entry-level X mount camera at the time, the X-M1 only retained some basic but also the most core parts - the 16MP X-Trans CMOS APS-C sensor.
Many people have found that the Fujifilm X-M1 is very similar to the Fujifilm X-A1. In fact, Fujifilm released the X-A1 three months after the X-M1 was released. Although there is not much difference in appearance, the X-A1 does not use the X-Trans sensor, but the traditional Bayer array, and the price is $100 cheaper than the X-M1.
If the leak is true, Fujifilm X-M5 may not be equipped with any EVF. Just like the Fujifilm X-M1, and probably won’t be equipped with new sensors. Fuji's choice to "revive" the X-M series at this time is indeed beyond the expectations of most people, but I am very happy that Fuji has not given up on the entry-level camera market.
