According to Canonrumors, a reliable source said that Canon plans to launch a global shutter mirrorless camera as early as the end of 2025, and it will be a "high-volume" model, not an unattainable flagship camera like Sony A93.
As early as 2016, Canon launched the EOS C700GS movie camera equipped with a global shutter, but it has not yet entered the consumer-grade mirrorless camera. Sony took the lead and launched the A93 in November 2023.
In mid-2024, Canon Imaging Group Vice President and Executive Director Tsuyoshi Tokura said in an interview that Canon is developing a global shutter. The reason why it was not used on EOSR1 was because it was worried that it would cause a decline in image quality. From the current news, Canon may have achieved a balance between image quality and speed.
As for the specific model, there is no clear news yet;
Rumors gave two possibilities:
First, the successor model of EOS R3, but this is contrary to the "high-volume" mentioned by the source, after all, EOS R3 is also a very high-priced model.
Second, APS-C speed machine, such as the successor model of EOSR7.
Of course, the above two items are only speculations at present.
